You can register your ‘home rights’ with HM Land Registry. This can help stop your partner from selling your home whilst your are both still living in it.
Staying in your partner’s property during a divorce or separation -
If you live with your ex-partner and the relationship ends, you’ll usually have the right to stay in the home if you’re married or in a civil partnership or named on the title deeds or tenancy agreement. You should work out what to do with the home you shared with your ex-partner.
If your ex-partner is trying to make you leave -
If your ex-partner has left your home, you’ll usually be able to stay if you’re married or in a civil partnership or named on the title deeds or tenancy agreement. If you're worried about your ex-partner coming back to live in the house, you should apply for an ‘occupation order’.
If your ex-partner has left your home -
For children, being able to spend time with both of their parents is important. As difficult as it may seem at first, managing to successfully parent across two homes is achievable.
